Ten stones form this small stone circle which is now huddled up against a drystone wall, in a field with a locked gate. On the other side of the wall, there appears to be a stone row.

Kemp Howe submitted by nicoladidsbury on 29th Mar 2004. This is the remains of what must have been a beautiful stone circle. The stones are pink granite and have a lovely glow. Unfortunately the ambience has been shattered by the "wonderful" victorians, who built the railway on top of it.

This is the view looking west overlooking the Merrivale site. I have tried to mark out where the various features are.

Merrivale North Row submitted by stewart on 12th Oct 2003. Grid Ref SX 555 747
There are two, main, rows at Merrivale - North and South.
The north row consists of two lines of stones, aligned east -west and nearly 200m long.
However, the two lines of stones are only about 1m apart so you can only just walk between them. It has larger stones at the west end and a blocking stone at the east.
The southern row doesn't start or finish on the same alignment, is not parallel to the northern one and was, probably, not built at the same time.

In the foreground, Merrivale Single Row 3 (see thecaptain's overview plan) at sunset on 21st September, the day before the Autumn Equinox, 2004. In the distance, in the glare of the setting sun, can be seen the two west end stones of the southern row. Two other taller stones on the south side of that southern row are also visible above centre, and to right of pic. ('Thecaptain' has a theory that these, and other taller stones in the rows, align with the menhir at certain times of the year.) T...

Log Text: A quite remarkable site with an atmosphere and ambience of its own. The presence of the church within the Henge gives a stark illustration of the efforts made to christianise ancient sites. Yet now the church itself stands in ruins and the neolithic still seems to overshadow the Norman era here. A fascinating and thought-provoking place!

Seven Barrows (Hampshire) submitted by wiztwas on 29th Aug 2005. Only four barrows that can be seen from the north bound A34. The first and biggest is spoilt by not only the road noise, but also the high voltage powerlines crackling overhead.
The other three barrows can not be seen from this side.
You can see one of the others, on the other side of the road, from the road.
