Margam Stones Museum

Margam Stones Museum submitted by pab on 30th Jun 2007. Margam. The Stones Museum contains items from the immediate vicinty, which has been inhabited for over 3000 years when bronze age settlers farmed Margam Mountain. The original Abbey of Margam was founded in 1147 and this picture captures some of the Abbey remains. These ruins are part of the Margam Park country park, adjacent to the Museum. The park/museum are a welcome break for travellers along the M4 (J38).

Cat Hole Cave

Cat Hole Cave submitted by pab on 29th Jan 2013. Cat Hole Cave interior. As access seems no longer possible, I thought people might like to see some photos from inside the cave. This shows one of the recesses at the back of the cave - there were many niches like this, most being very narrow. We didn't have particularly good lighting, so couldn't investigate properly. Seeing the cave definitely helped me understand the description of how the art was found, and how it might have been missed for so long too. Photo taken 28 Sept 2...

Hardings Down West

Hardings Down West submitted by pab on 5th Jul 2013. The south-westerly edge of Hardings Down West, with sem providing both scale and perspective.... This hillfort is very deceptive - from the lane it looks fairly impressive, but its sheer scale is only appreciated when you reach the ramparts. If you really can't enjoy this delightful location during the Portal event arranged as part of the Festival of Archaeology, follow the COFLEIN link on the site page to see a very impressive aerial image. Sgwd Gwladus Stone

Sgwd Gwladus Stone submitted by pab on 12th Mar 2007. Sgwd Gwladus Stone. This magnificent stone is above the Sgwd Gwladus waterfall. It does not seem to be the 'Logan' or Rocking Stone shown on the OS Map - at least, we couldn't get this one to rock! It therefore seem to justify a mention in its own right.
