Log Text: Had a good look at this yesterday when playing golf. Unfortunately the Hawthorne tree died a couple of years ago and is no longer there (still part of the Matlock GC badge though) a replacement has been planted but as yet is little more than a sapling. I failed to take any pictures 😞 but noticed how on the downhill side and in the direction if the stone's lean it has been supported with smaller rocks at/below ground level.

Log Text: Recent rain made it a bit wet underfoot but with care I managed to keep my socks dry! The lawn mowers just finishing work helped a lot.

Farley Moor Stone Circle

Date Added: 12th Jan 2021
Site Type: Stone Circle Country: England (Derbyshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 2012. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 4 Access 4

Farley Moor Stone

Farley Moor Stone submitted by stu on 17th Oct 2013. SK2996 6300. Standing stone on Farley Moor, now in forestry. Marked on 1st edition of the O.S 1:2500 as stone. John Barnatt and Frank Robinson visited the stone in 2003 and thought it to be prehistoric due to its location and weathering, although only excavation would prove this. If it is prehistoric it would be the 3rd largest standing stone on the eastern gritstone moors.

Log Text: Surrounded by Forrestry Commission pines but evidently receives some attention as either an educational or meeting site.
