This picture was taken looking east in 1987, when wandering amongst the stones was OK. I think many of them have been fenced off to try and combat erosion these days. I must go back sometime.

Saint-Michel tumulus (on the left in the picture) overlooks the Carnac stones, behind it the steeples of the Carnac churches rise into the sky. Then there's the contribution of our times: a wisely protected landscape and...the tarmacked road, I suppose.
