The Hurlers Pipers

The Hurlers Pipers submitted by JimChampion on 31st Oct 2006. August 2006, on a rainy afternoon close by the Hurlers stone circle. The Pipers in monochrome, since the natural colours were so desaturated anyway. A very exposed location. Cornish folklore question: Why would you have pipers at a hurling game?

The Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary. submitted by JimChampion on 10th May 2005. February 2005. Looking over the Sanctuary site, from the Avenue entrance. The modern ambience is a bit weird, like Woodhenge, with the little concrete markers showing where several phases of posts/stones once stood.

Tredinney Cairn

Tredinney Cairn submitted by JimChampion on 25th Aug 2005. Looking south at the cairn from the footpath across Tredinney Common. In the distance is the ever-present tower of St Buryan's church. Nice enough view from here, but I imagine its a pretty blustery place for most of the year.

Tregeseal East

Tregeseal East submitted by JimChampion on 31st Dec 2004. August 2004. Composite image. The granite outcrop of Carn Kenidjack towers over this pleasant stone circle. This is a very wide open landscape and the Dancing stones seem very small in it. The variety of colours in the landscape are amazing at this time of year.

Trethevy Quoit

Visited: Yes on 15th Aug 2007

Trethevy Quoit

Trethevy Quoit submitted by JimChampion on 15th Aug 2007. Two-photo composite image of Trethevy Quoit. I was surprised to find that the quoit was right next to a row of houses, probably for two reasons. One - the other quoits I'd visited (in West Penwith) were all in fairly remote locations. Two - all the photographs I'd previously seen of it had been carefully composed in order to avoid or hide the houses. Here it is in all its back-garden glory.

The stone wall still survives under the hedge, and the whole thing is quite obvious from some distance away. Apologies for the quality of this picture, it was taken from some distance at full zoom, and it was very windy (no tripod!).
