This rock is just NW of the prominent 'Haystack'. It has 13 cups, 9 of which have rings and grooves linking them. A further groove encloses the inner design.
This is ref 295 in 'Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding' & is the carving on the books cover.

This site confuses me a little, you have 2 fairly large flat panels of rock with various carvings, ranging from simple cup markings to the more elaborate design you see in this photo. The confusing bit is the different amounts of erosion on carvings that are within a few feet of each other, some are nearly completely worn, others still quite clear & sharp. Log Text: Very accessible and beautiful site in the woods. We could have done with some directions, so here goes... you need to stop in a lay by on the left coming from Evora, cross road to rhs and look for a kind of gap in barbed wire fence with red and white sign. Climb over wire fence follow path into woods about 100m max.Site is impressive with one very large stone and about 30 others. Some campers have treated it inconsiderately with toilet paper etc.

Log Text: We went on an organised tour during the Petroglyph festival - the only time non Us citizens can usually have a chance to visit. It was truly worth the 500 mile detour on our road trip - we only explored little petroglyph canyon but the images there were varied and numerous enough to keep us in awe for several hours. It is difficult to capture in pictures because of this .. the images are at all levels and on both sides of the canyon like an art gallery. Even the guide said she sees new images every time she visits depending on the light and the weather. There is nothing like this in the uk especially with human (or even alien) images but I noted that the cup and ring marks and grids were similar to some in those sites have visited in UK/Ireland. I will try to post differently images to ivanjohnson.
The information we got form the archaeologist said the images cannot be dated by not al methods but cast doubt on them being 10000 years old probably most in last 2000 years..the local Native American tribes still consider the site sacred and hold ceremonies there.

Tom's OS Map Number for Eight Rocks is SX645925, I believe he meant SX635925 (only one number out), Near to where TheCaptain claims to have found the remains of the Stone Circle, The Hut Circle in the photo is found at SX647923, Near to Nine Stones, Was this hut with it's large stones once known as Nine Stones and gave the place it's name?
