Log Text: This site is not actually a dolmen. It is a donated tomb door, now situated at the entrance driveway of a crematorium.

Log Text: various dolmen components form part of the eclectic and unusual collection of oddities in this nice church yard. There is parking adjacent to the well kept site.

Log Text: Well, this site looks impressive but it is extremely difficult to see. In the middle of a farmers field, there is no way to get a good look other than by climbing a steep and awkward verge. The entranceway for agricultural vehicles is strung with 'keep out' notices, and a wall borders the rest of the field.

Traonigou alignement de menhirs

Traonigou alignement de menhirs submitted by thecaptain on 25th Jul 2009. The two standing menhirs are about 4 and 5 metres tall, the two fallen ones becoming lost in the undergrowth.

Log Text: At the time of visit, only the two vertical stones were visible given the thick greenery. A beautiful site, though for some reason a rope had been strung across the access path.

Log Text: This visit was made during the mid-tide, and required a reasonable swim of about 40 m. Should not be attempted alone.

Visbeker Braut

Date Added: 3rd Sep 2021
Site Type: Long Barrow Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 11th Aug 2021. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 5

Visbeker Braut

Visbeker Braut submitted by Martin_L on 18th Jan 2011. The SW-side narrow side. It is built of 4 enormous kerbstones, all appr. 3m high. Like at similar sites, the kerbstones at the narrow sides are the largest. The other short side in the NW is partly destroyed, but two large corner stones are still in place. These larger kerbstones at the short sides of long barrows are often called “Wächter” (means: “guard” or “guardian”) in Germany. March 2008

Log Text: A splendid site, well visited this summer by a range of interested visitors. Atmospheric for such an easily reached site adjacent to a sizable road.

Bargloyer Steinkiste

Date Added: 2nd Sep 2021
Site Type: Chambered Tomb Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 11th Aug 2021. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3 Access 4

Bargloyer Steinkiste

Bargloyer Steinkiste submitted by Martin_L on 11th May 2010. The capstone photographed with additional lighting to enhance the visibilty of the more than 60 cup-marks. Nevertheless due to the partly undulating surface of the granite erratic it is hard to show all cup-marks even when using several light sources. Documentation using frottage-technique for example would lead to more accurate results. May 2010

Log Text: A surprisingly small capstone on top of a sizable mound.

Schmeersteine Grosssteingrab

Schmeersteine Grosssteingrab submitted by Martin_L on 14th Apr 2010. The remaining chamber part viewed from the South-West. Foreground right: orthostat S5. Probably explosives were used in the 19th century (as usual) to destroy the site. Fortunately it partly survived. April 2010 Visit Remark: Even in early April there were plenty of ticks.

Schmeersteine Huegelgrab (1)

Schmeersteine Huegelgrab (1) submitted by Martin_L on 25th Apr 2012. From the SW. Large barrow of slightly irregular shape, appr. 24m diameter, height 2m. Situated in a pathless area of a woodland, with partly dense undergrowth. It is located to the North-east of Schmeersteine Großsteingrab. Many trees are growing on the barrow. The surface of its southern edge is partly grown with grass, most other parts are like the forest soil. There are several dens (probably badger) inside the barrow. The largest entrance just on top of it. Dating of barrow is uncert...

Log Text: The two megaliths noted by Martin L remain visible, though I did not note the barrow structure as clearly... there is some rusty barbed wire fencing in the vicinity, so be careful of this whilst exploring.

Bargloyer Brookbäke Steingrab (3)

Date Added: 2nd Sep 2021
Site Type: Chambered Tomb Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 11th Aug 2021. My rating: Condition 1 Ambience 3 Access 4

Bargloyer Brookbäke Steingrab (3)

Bargloyer Brookbäke Steingrab (3) submitted by Martin_L on 27th Mar 2012. From the East: Remaining megalith in the northern ditch. There are approx two 20m long ditches (i assume they result from removal of the megaliths) oriented East-West. Between these ditches the terrain is elevated (I assume these are the remains of the barrow). Two large, but partly covered megaliths are visible. One in each ditch. March 2012

Log Text: The years since Martin L visited this site have not been kind, it is difficult to pick out the features he describes.

Bargloyer Brookbäke Grab (4)

Date Added: 2nd Sep 2021
Site Type: Round Barrow(s) Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 11th Aug 2021. My rating: Condition 1 Ambience 4 Access 4

Bargloyer Brookbäke Grab (4)

Bargloyer Brookbäke Grab (4) submitted by Martin_L on 27th Mar 2012. From the NE. The hollowed-out and robbed round barrow most probably dates back to bronze age and contained no megalithic structure. It is situated at the SE edge of a small wood with dense undergrowth. The barrows' diameter is approx. 18m, height up to 1,2m. It has a central pit most probably caused by historic excavations or perhaps collapse of an internal wooden structure. Of course this can only be clarified by archaeological examination. March 2012

Log Text: A tree covered slight rise with ~10 m wide depression was all that was visible at this site.
