Autun visited on 16th Sep 2021 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 5 Access: 1 These stones are rather pleasant, and likely lined up with the large menhir which was once nearby. The stones are host to a range of interesting fauna, as is the island as a hole, with many contrasting exposure niches providing for a patchwork fauna mosaic.

TheCaptain visited on 20th Jun 2005 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 5 Access: 2 This is frustrating. There is only 15 metres of water between me and the island from where I sit, but the tide is coming in and the island is not going to get any nearer. There is a dolmen on top of the island, and there are also at least two menhirs further down to the south of the island, and looking towards the shore. I believe that there was once a large menhir here also, which was blown up during the war. Perhaps a swim is needed !

Average ratings for this site from all visit loggers: Condition: 2.5 Ambience: 5 Access: 1.5

ÃŽle Melon menhirs
ÃŽle Melon menhirs submitted by thecaptain : There are remains of at least two menhirs to the south of the island. Other larger menhirs were destroyed in the second world war. I would guess an inspection of the rocks on the island would reveal some pieces. (Vote or comment on this photo)
On this small island reachable at very low tide, there is a dolmen on top of the island, and there are also at least two menhirs further down to the south of the island, and looking towards the shore.

Other larger menhirs were destroyed in the second world war, along with possibly a second dolmen.

Note: Access to the island should not be attempted unless you are sure about the state of the tide, and that it is still receding as you cross. Or else you are willing to wait marooned for 12 hours for the next low tide, are a strong swimmer, or have a boat available.

ÃŽle Melon menhirs submitted by thecaptain : View of Ile Melon from the end of the little harbour wall on the mainland. The remains of two menhirs can be seen to the left of the picture, while the remaining dolmen is at the top of the island. (Vote or comment on this photo)
