Carreg Samson, Abercastle submitted by enkidu41 on 15th Aug 2004. SM84833350 A capstone measuring 17’4” x 11’9” is supported by 3 of 7 large uprights to form a polygonal chamber 10’9” x 5’6”. The overall elongated shape suggests that there was once a large rectangular covering mound.

There was no obvious path to the stones apart from through the crops so I took the shot from a distance. Burl believes that few if any of these stones are in their original positions but have probalby been re-erected through the years.

Cork (V665 463): Derreenataggart is both easily accessible and a fine example of an axial or recumbent stone circle. It is now incomplete: of an original fifteen or so stones, nine remain erect and three are now prostrate.
