Kleinenkneter Steine 1
Kleinenkneter Steine 1 submitted by Martin_L : The lateral entrance passage of the chambered long-barrow. March 2010 (Vote or comment on this photo)
A very impressive and well-known megalithic site in Germany.

Rectangular longbarrow, 49 x 7m. The barrow is supported by 62 kerbstones. Some of them being very large, especially at barrows' northern and southern end. Orientation appr. 10° (~ S-N). The barrow-centre contains a trapezoid-shaped passage- grave of same orientation. The chamber has 4 orthostats on the western and 5 on eastern longside. One large chamber endstone each in the north and south.

The lateral entrance is located between orthostats E3 and E4 (counting from the North) at the eastern chamber side. Entrance-orientation appr. 100°. Clear chamber size is 6m x 1,4m (south) /2m (north). The tomb was restored in the 1930s. Among other things the partly eroded barrow was rebuilt and two missing capstones of the chamber were replaced by concrete blocks.

Most probably it is now very close to its original state. The only exception is the gap between two orthostats at chambers' NW edge. This was left to let some light into the chamber and ease visits without torch. But nevertheless a torch is useful.
