SandyG visited on 7th Aug 2017 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 4 Access: 3 Car parking is available at NB 22492 32928. From here follow the path to Callanish 3 stone circle which is well worth visiting before heading south towards the high ground. Cross the boggy ground towards the gate that provides access to the field in which the row is situated. Visitors need to be aware that special care should be taken to protect against ticks. At the time of the visit large numbers of ticks were encountered at the stone row.

Stone Row / Alignment in Isle of Lewis

Cnoc Fillibhir Mhor Stone Row, north of Harris, is 1.65 kilometres south east of the Callanish Standing Stones.

Described in Canmore ID 293953 this stone row is 7 metres long and made up of three large orthostats standing in moorland. A fourth stone is recorded as standing 10 metres south of these three stones, so Canmore suggests regarding this stone row as part of a larger setting, especially as another stone circle is recorded as lying 650 metres away.

This site sits at an altitude of only 10 metres, but gives 360 degree views and has a view out to sea: "The surrounding features are, clockwise: Camas an Torr (the bay), Creag nahanalach (hill for taking a rest), Creag na Uilblan (hill of the curlew), Cnoc Buaile nan Pearst, and Rubha Reamhar (broad headland). Viewing southwards along the alignment indicates the left slope of Clisham. A theodolite horizon survey shows this to be the setting point of the S extreme moon at 191 degrees azimuth." Click on the link above to see more about the astronomical functions.

The row is also featured on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for Garynahine, Cnoc Fillibhir Mhor, which includes a description, photographs and a plan of this stone row.
