Sadly, Ian Honeywood, aka Stonedowser, and a British expat living in Vermont, passed away last week. Ian was active on the web until just a few months ago.

His website is being maintained by his family, and remains the best documented dowsing-stones website, at www.stonedowser.com (Archive Link)

Ian was a pioneer of putting stones onto the web, starting his site in August 1998, his site was an early member of the Stone Circle webring that I founded.

He was also an early contributor to the Megalithic Portal and keen member of the Stones Mailing List (see link at lower left). List operator Chris Tweed: "I'll always associate Dartmoor with Ian. I hadn't explored Dartmoor at all until he inspired me to go and see all those stone rows for myself. My thoughts will certainly be with him whenever I'm around the stones of Dartmoor."

Portal member Herwarth von Schwind commented: "I was so fascinated by the picture above [of Stalldown Row] that I spontaneously decided to take a short term trip from Germany to see the place in March 2003. The trip really paid off. It is by all means an amazing site with an enchanted atmosphere."

I (Andy) didn't meet Ian personally but followed his travels back to the UK with interest in past years.

I am sure many of you have met him or enjoyed his work, there is a thread open in our Forum dedicated to Ian. There is also a Guest book on his site that you can use

Tim, Andy and the team.

Is this the Ian Honeywood I used to work with at the Rolls-Royce factory at Leavesden, Hertfordshire, U.K. before it closed in the early 90s?

If so, I'm really sorry to hear of the news. I didn't have a lot of dealings with 'my' Ian, but those that I did have were always a pleasure. My memory of him is that he was a gentle, pleasant, and easy going person that never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was in every sense a gentleman in an environment that generally did little to encourage such characteristics.

The World needs more, not less, Ian Honeywoods!

Best wishes to all on this site.

Sorry to hear this sad news.
Maintaining the website is an apt tribute to a dedicated Megalith investigator.
My regards to his family

Thank you to all!

My dad loved what he did and loved this site. I miss him so much. He would have loved to have known how you all felt about his work. It is an honour that you have this on the front page of your site.
