The most exciting, mystical discovery of ancient stone observatories in the mountains of South Africa, called "Pathways of the Sun" was featured on Sunday, 23 September 2001 on the television programme, Carte Blanche.

NOWHERE ELSE ON EARTH HAS THIS PHENOMENON BEEN RECORDED - it appears to be unique to South Africa and offers the opportunity to create a new tourism icon that will add huge impetus to the domestic and international tourist industry. The extent and nature of this archaeo-astronomical mystery, possibly used by ancient African civilizations, is of monumental proportions and will grip the imagination of people worldwide.

Following 12 years of intensive research in the field of archaeo-astronomy by South African Dean Liprini, the time has come to reveal this remarkable discovery that indicates that the early people of South Africa were far more intelligent, respectful and in tune with the life forces that supported them than we have imagined.

The Pathways of the Sun phenomenon is a mysterious grid network of geometrically aligned Solar and Lunar observatories on a latitude between 34 and 35 degrees south. A remarkable feature of these observatories is that the Human Profile has been used as a unique sundial. These profiles are aligned to record the sun's path as the rays pass through the eye channel. More than 100 observatories, each in perfect astronomical alignment, have been recorded over an 800 kilometre area.

Who built these stone observatories? When were they built? For what purpose?

Dean Liprini has completed his thesis on this research and has presented it to a number of local academics in the various fields of enquiry that can be attributed to this field of study. The thesis has also been presented to international academics who possess the specialised knowledge and expertise in the field of archaeo-astronomy and who endorse and support this project. A book called "Pathways of the Sun" is planned for publication.

This unique discovery has the potential to uplift the spirit of South Africa’s people and will play a meaningful economic role in the region via tourism.

South Africa is the ‘cradle of mankind' and the ancestral heritage is a key building block in restoring the dignity, pride, self worth and the nationhood of the South African people.

Pathways of the Sun will unlock more information about the ancient culture, create added interest in Cape Town and South Africa among tourists and contribute to the renaissance that must flourish on the continent for Africa to claim this century.
