Maen Mawr and it's two outliers . These type of stone row, with a large slab and the much smaller companion/s can be found in several places in the Brecon Beacons, not so common elsewhere.
  The thinking behind them is a mystery now, but these ones at least may be showing some clue to their use here.

Maen Mawr and it's two outliers . These type of stone row, with a large slab and the much smaller companion/s can be found in several places in the Brecon Beacons, not so common elsewhere.
The thinking behind them is a mystery now, but these ones at least may be showing some clue to their use here.
It is a little after midday on November 7th, and the shadow from Maen Mawr has just passed ove the middle stone, and gone a tad beyond it too . Cloudcover prevented a clearer or more timely view.
It seems that this could be some kind of a shadow measurement device. Possibly, but not definitely, a kind of permanent calender.
Contrast this photo with the one from midday at the winter solstice.
