Description
This fine remnant sits in the middle of a field near Balluderon Farm. It is also known as St.Martin's Stone. The symbols are reported as, Beast, serpent+Z and horseman.
An old rhyme known in the area commemorates the event where Martin avenged the death of his lover by the Dragon,Kelpie.Still remembered 1500 years later.
Tempted at Pitempton,
Draigled at Baldragon,
Stricken at Strathmartin,
And killed at Martin's Stane.

According to one old story I remember, there had been a crowd of locals watching Martin fight the dragon and they egged him on by repeatedly shouting, "Strike, Martin!" and it was a corruption of these words that gave rise to the place name "Strathmartin".
