Round Cairn in County Durham

Maiden's Bower round cairn is located at the end of a narrow ridge. The mound is 1.5 m high, it has a flat top and a berm which is up to 3 m wide. In western part of the monument there are remains of a probable quarry ditch, now partly filled.

There is a public footpath running next to the cairn, it starts from Waddington Street. The area is covered with a forest.

It loies beside a footpath from the end of Flass Vale The mound is flat-topped, measures 8.5m in diameter and stands to a maximum height of 1.5m.     There is a narrow footpath which starts right of Ainsley Street. It leads to the forest, the barrow is located left of the footpath (barely visible from the footpath, since it is located above it on a small natural promontory). You can input the site's grid reference (NZ26434271) into http://www.gridreferencefinder.com to see location of the barrow in relation to the streets.

This is a barrow, not a sacred spring.
