Badger stone
Badger stone submitted by DavidRaven : The Badger Stone. Covered in cup-and-ring markings. It even has a bench next to it to rest your weary bones! No excuse now for not visiting this fascinating place...! (Vote or comment on this photo)
Rock Art in West Yorkshire

The stone has a possible swastika motif on its eastern edge. This is thought to have been added at a later date than the cup & ring marks and may be contemporary with the famous 'swastika stone' at Woodhouse Crag.

For more information see England's Rock Art entry for ERA-236 Badger Stone, which gives a detailed description and includes photographs, a panoramic photograp, a plan of the stone and its motifs, plus photogrammetry and a 3D model.

This stone is located on Open Access land.

Badger Stone
Badger Stone submitted by handaxe : An Earthfast boulder covered in cups, rings and grooves, Ilkley Moor, West Yorkshire. The carvings grow moor and less distinct as the sun moves accross the sky. Some carvings are almost invisible in the morning when this picture was taken. Compare with the other black and white picture of the stone. (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

This page and photographs needs renaming to Badger Stone (88) or Badger Stone (Romalds Moor) as there's another Badger Stone in North Yorkshire on Todd Intake Moor. I will do this as part of the TNA/ERA site addition exercise, unless anyone else wants to pick this up in the meantime! Thanks.

About 35 metres south-east of the Badger Stone there is a small standing stone.
My compass and clinometer tell me that this line would point toward midwinter sunrise over the crest of the moor.
Has anyone else noted this?
