Holy Well (Chapel of Stonyewood)
Holy Well (Chapel of Stonyewood) submitted by KiwiBetsy : Although dry since 1930 the well remains as a distinct stone marked depression roughly oval in shape. When last excavated water was found only half a metre down. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Aberdeenshire

The remains of a chapel, St Mary's of Stoneywood' built in 1367 are situated on the left bank of the Green Burn within a stone-walled burial-ground. They share their lovely spot with tombstones and a Holy Well. The well was considered medicinally beneficial for the stomach and was also used to heal ulcerous tumours of the skin. Even in it’s dry state this lovely setting helps retain its source of hope and belief. Located just south of the A96 at Chapel of Stoneywood.
