Hird Wood
Hird Wood submitted by stu : NY416059. Remains of a concentric circle. Picture shows the largest stone of the inner circle (2 lower ones not shown). And the 3 stones of the outer ring built into a field wall. There are other possible 'fallen' stones of the outer ring dotted around. Access is pretty straightforward, approximately 0.25miles down a bridleway (NY414 062) which passes through the circle. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Stone Circle in Cumbria

On the side of Hird Gill 4 km (2.5 miles) NE of Ambleside 230 m above sea level.

For more information see Pastscape Monument No. 10885, an extract of which reads: "concentric stone circle. Six stones remain in the outer circle, which has a diameter of 20m. Three stones on the western side are incorporated in the base of a drystone wall. Within the outer circle is an inner circle 11.5m in diameter; four stones remain in this circle, the largest standing 1.3m high, set upon the top edge of an earth and stone cairn measuring up to 0.8m high and 16.7m in diameter at the base; scheduled."

This site is located just east of the Kirkstone Pass at High Kingate.
