Standing Stone (Menhir) in Shropshire

A very large granite menhir on a prominent hilltop position, set in concrete.

It is not listed on the SMR or any archaeological database. Given the the use of non local stone, and this, its antiquity seems questionable.

Credit to "Grey" for this, who accompanied the group on the Shropshire Meet in March 2003, and pointed out this menhir in the distance from the top of Caer Caradoc (Chapel Lawn).

Great Hagley submitted by Postman : Great Hagley as well as being a great big stone has a perfect view of Caer Caradoc (the other one), iron age hill fort, but that might also argue in favour of the the menhir not being bronze age. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Re: Great Hagley by Anonymous on Friday, 11 May 2007
Locals have known about this for years and wondered whether the visibility of Great Hagley from both Caer Caradoc and the Roman settlement at Leintwardine is significant. Especially since the stone is lluminated by the setting sun behind Caer Caradoc.
