crediblywitless visited on 25th Jul 2022 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 4 Access: 3 Now that there's a tractor/4x4 track that takes off up the front of the hillside from the far edge of the second field back from the road, access is relatively straightforward. When the track starts to bend left at the top of the hill, the easiest way in is just at the _second_ turn left. Then you have a fairly flat place to make it over a not-too-nasty barb-topped fence. It is definitely worth the trip!

Broch in Sutherland

Allt an Duin stands on the summit of a steep conical knoll, some 85 metres above the river Naver, and about a mile east of it. The broch is guarded by steep slopes, and in summer, a jungle of tall bracken. This is not a target for the casual walker as the ascent is demanding, though the gradient can be eased by making for the southern ridge and completing the ascent from there.

The broch is built from large blocks of stone, the bulk of which has long since collapsed both downslope and within it, concealing much of its structure. Only scant remains of foundation course are visible on the broch's exterior, although the entrance passage on the west is still discernable. On the interior, on the other hand, there still remain a few stretches of inner wall that reach up to eight courses in height.
