Ring Hill hillfort
Ring Hill hillfort submitted by PaulM : Ring Hill hillfort This small but distinctive hillfort overlooks Wigtown Bay and sits atop a small hill at NX43755895. To view it take the small lane that runs off the B7004 to Garlieston. The map indicates that a “Cup & Ring Marked Rock” can be found nearby - we failed to find this but it was raining and we didn’t get out of the car! (Vote or comment on this photo)
Hillfort in Dumfries & Galloway

This small but distinctive hillfort overlooks Wigtown Bay and sits atop a small hill at NX 4372 5095. To view it take the small lane that runs off the B7004 to Garlieston. The map indicates that a “Cup & Ring Marked Rock” can be found nearby - we failed to find this but it was raining and we didn’t get out of the car!

For more information see Canmore ID 63414 which describes the fort deteriorating significantly between 1911 and 1953. The fort has only since been photographed from the air and these images can be seen on the Canmore record.

There are two cup and ring marked rocks nearby, one at NX 4337 5098 (recorded as Canmore ID 63418), the other recorded only at NX 434 509 and described as turf covered and 'lost although a scan of a rubbing of this stone is given on Canmore ID 63418.

Ring Hill
Ring Hill submitted by MDunbar : Image taken by a drone copter from 300 feet up. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Ring Hill Cross
Ring Hill Cross submitted by Anne T : A closer look at this tapered stone, lying close to the grid reference point. The fact it had been left (carefully?) by the tree, as opposed to having been deposited roughly with other lumps of stone nearby indicated it might have been important and set aside for a reason. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Ring Hill Cross
Ring Hill Cross submitted by Anne T : The top and sides of this stone looked as if they had been shaped, and did to some extent match the description given by Starkey. It was certainly close to the grid reference given by Pastscape. Has something (a cross head) been broken off the top? Is this Starkey's Ringhill Wayside Cross or just a gatepost? (Vote or comment on this photo)

Ring Hill Cross
Ring Hill Cross submitted by Anne T : Just inside the recently replaced gate and gateposts into the field, we spotted this tapering post lying under the roots of a large tree. Very curious, we went closer to take a look. (Vote or comment on this photo)
