Standing Stone (Menhir) in Gwynedd

This was an absolute delight to come across! When looking for interesting places to visit while on the Lleyn Peninsula this week, I came across some suggestions on this site - for which many thanks, Graham and Angela (link to their site below *) !

This is a very impressive menhir, noted on the COFLEIN site to be 2.44m high, but looking taller against the much shorter tombstones. Two things make it special - firstly the overall seeting with the most amazing views of the high ground on the peninsula, and secondly its setting in the graveyard of a demolished church.

I have not yet had an opportunity to look into the history of the church in whose grounds it stood, but this stone must surely have pre-dated as well as having survived the Christian use of this very atmospheric place?

* By way of thanks, here is a link to the site I came across this item.

Meyllteyrn submitted by AngieLake : I honestly didn't know that postman had taken something similar to this, but it seemed a good idea to squeeze in a swirl, even if it was not on the stone!

Meyllteyrn submitted by AngieLake : It has rather a nice curve to it and lots of lovely lichen.
