Kilmory Knap submitted by Ghriogair : The old church that is Kilmory Knap. There is no slate roof, a glass roof has been used instead which allows plenty of daylight in to see these magnificent stones by ! (Vote or comment on this photo)
Sculptured Stone in Argyll

Kilmory Knap is a repository for the various carved stones that have been found in the area. The major feature is MacMillans Cross which is allegedly the one of the oldest (if not the oldest) examples of this type of cross.

It is a bit out the way to get to, there is no through road. Head for Castle Sween and keep going a bit, you will come to Kilmory Knap.......

The west face of the cross depicts the Crucifixion with a two-handled sword, or claymore, underneath, while the east face, depicted here, is decorated with twisted stems and interlaced foliage, with a shaft carved with a kilted warrior and hounds hunting deer.
