Towednack Church Cornish Crosses
Towednack Church Cornish Crosses submitted by Antonine : St Tewennocus /St Winwaloe church was built in the 13th century on the site of a Celtic monastery. The place name comes from the Old Cornish ‘te-Winnoc/thy St Winnoc’, the 6th century hermit from Brittany. In 1931 a Bronze Age hoard of gold ornaments and jewellery were found in an ancient stone hedge in Badgers Lane. There is a legend that the tower was never completed as during the nigh... The cross was found buried in the churchyard at the beginning of the century. Nothing else is known about it.
