Kurushima Family Residence garden submitted by Aska : Site in Kyūshū Japan (Vote or comment on this photo)
Kurushima Family was originally a part of the pirate tribes in Seto Inland Sea, after the Battle of Sekigaharain 1600, substantially the last war for the unification of Japan at the end of civil war era, in which they had participated in the loser side they were exiled and given a minimum domain and prohibited to build their own castle.

So they built a fortress disguising their mansion and a Shinto shrine (末廣神社), it is now modified into Mishima Park (三島公園) and contains a dry landscape garden on the hilltop, a pond garden with rocks and a small pond garden at hill foot.
