Sunhoney
Sunhoney submitted by krautrock : Sunhoney Stone Circle. Amazing Recumbent Stone Circle surrounded by big trees. June 2010 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Sunhoney is a lovely 27 metre diameter recumbent stone circle comprising 11 standing stones and a tilted recumbent stone with 31 cup marks, the stone now in two pieces, one large and one small.

One of the standing stones also carries a cup mark. Excavations here in 1865 revealed cremations. There is a 7 metre elevated platform in the centre of the circle. Nowadays the circle seems to stand in a low bank and it is thought possible that some restoration has occurred at some time in the past.

To reach the site drive approximately 2 kilometres west of Echt on the B9119 and there is a signed farm lane running north to Sunhoney Farm. It seems OK to drive up this lane and park (avoid interferring with farm vehicles and access) as there is a sign at the top of the lane stating "No vehicles beyond this point" and an arrow directing you to the circle. From there it is a short walk along a boundary fence and down a path to the site.
