Information from a plaque at the site:
"What you see in front of you is a stone circle of unusual size, consisting of 29 stones. The norm for stone circles is 7 or 9 stones.
Stone circles are prehistoric graves; they were made throughout the Iron Age. Burned remains were placed in an urn somewhere in the middle of the grave.
Another theory is that this is what remains of a large ship formation, similar to one in a neighbouring village.
According to old folk tradition, both folk assemblies and battles used to take place here."
