Saith Maen WSW submitted by cerrig : This is looking South. It's a quite overgrown and confused site now. I counted upwards of 20 stones in this "coral", there should be only 8. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Stone Row (Alignment) in Powys

Two standing stones and five or six prostrate ones lie in a row west-south-west to east-north-east.

Update November 2019: This alignment is featured on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for Saith Maen WSW, which includes a description, a plan of the row from a survey carried out in August 2018, photographs of the alignment and its individual stones, access information and a list of online resources for more information. The SRoGB notes the row "stands in an area with a broadly contemporary standing stone".

The row is also recorded as Coflein NPRN 305005 (Saith Maen, Llanfihangel Brynpabuan). The row is also scheduled as BR065 (Saith-Maen Standing Stones) on the CADW website.

Saith Maen WSW
Saith Maen WSW submitted by cerrig : This is looking East, approx along the row, my rucksack marks the far stone and it runs back to the camera. It should be 8 stones in a row, it's now 5 stones and a pile of 3 on the nearest (Western) end. Something has been going on here, Watson.

Saith Maen WSW
Saith Maen WSW submitted by cerrig : This is the view looking West. Saith Maen is hidden in the tussocky grass on the left. The stones on the right are recent additions. This is taken from the ditch end, it's quite deep so watch out for it if you come here.

Saith Maen WSW
Saith Maen WSW submitted by cerrig : This is the view looking North. Saith Maen is contained inside the fencing. The ruts running down towards the camera were caused by "off roaders". The same was true of the other end of the fence but a deep ditch has been cut there now.

I visited this site in Jan 2010. To get to it involved a walk along a cobbled road(may be Roman,Idon't know) over the moor, until it became totally impassible because of it's destruction by "off roaders",even though the road is officially closed to traffic. The only way around was through a bog as it was easier than the road. When i found SaithMaen it had been fenced off. The fence had a deep ditch on it's Eastern end, probably officially put there to protect the Row. The Western end was not so lucky. The row was 2 stones shorter than it used to be,the end 2 have been dumped on the next stone along, presumably the person responsible for the rut that cut off the row thought these stones had been there long enough,so he moved them rather than drive around them.He probably wouldn't have had to take this route, but some inconsiderate drivers had turned the cobbled road into a knee deep swamp. No doubt their selfishness justifiably outraged him,and then some long forgotten Neanderthal had gone and put some dangerous boulders right where he wanted to drive, having to squeeze his 4x4 between the row and the hill just the 1/2 mile away,no wonder he clipped it.Understandable really,I sympathise.
You may have guessed that finding this didn't make my day,but God is not an off roader, and just to prove it ,on the way back to the car i met 2 trials bike riders on their way to the swamp. Having just scrubbed them off my xmas card list i was disposed to inform them of this occurance and the reasons thereof. I changed my mind when i saw they were policemen, part of the mobile units set up to tackle said "off roaders".
I vented my frustrations on them, they made all the right noises ,and then we went our seperate ways, vowing to unite our resources for the common goal. Mine being based on castration and a Spartacus type lineup alongside said possible Roman road( i should check on that). It seemed an entirely appropriate and effective method to me,but the police favoured more of an educational tack. I still think my way would have reinforced the message adequately, but they are the experts.
Almost back to the car,and i meet 3 more riders, civilians this time, covered in mud from the days "sport",on their way to try out the track where my previous aquaintenances were waiting for such as they. And do you know, must be my age or something,or maybe God intervened, who knows, but i completely forgot to warn them of the boys in fluorescant green beyond. I hope they didn't get caught, now that would upset me.

Good to see plod making a presence on the green lanes, something I've not heard reported before. Still sounds like a bit of a cushy jaunt for them though!

If anyone does visit, there are some sizeable boulders added to the site, probably as protection for the row. Saith Maen is the line of stones on the lower side of the coral.

Another thing to remember for anyone planning a visit is the weather. The usual mountain advice applies, but more so here.I was talking to a local chap, one of very few brave enough to live up here, he told me that in the recent snow he had been stuck for 3 weeks, unable to get in or out.The single track lane is a few miles long and quite steep in places. So if you are coming and the white stuff is forecast, pack a few extra sandwiches, and some clean underwear, you may need them.
