Visited on a very wet day in October 2020. Had no problem accessing the site from Brierley Wood but did not explore all the rights of way. Pretty impressive earthworks in an imposing position, this must have been an important fortress in its day!

The hill fort is at the top of a steep hill to the north and a much easier slope to the south and east. There is a heavily overgrown rampart and what looks like an entrance - now used by the sheep to move between an apple orchard and the interior of the camp.

Camp farm is on the south-west edge of the site - a row of cottages and a barn conversion.

Access seems an issue. The OS map shows a public footpath running right along the top of the scarp slope, i.e. the northern edge. However, there is a new gate at the west end with "No Entry" signs on it. Needs to be looked into via the Council footpaths officer.

There is speculation as to whether the site was used as a wooden fortress in the mediaeval period, but the lack of any relevant finds makes it unlikely.
