Stone age rock carvings near Molde in Norway

The site consists of rock carvings mainly from the older stone age, about 4000 BC until later stone age, about 3000 BC.
The site is divided into three parts, the large animal figures are located on the part that lie farthest up from the sea level, and the youngest further down the hill closer to the sea shore. After the ice age, the land has raised more and more. So the lower carvings must be younger. 70-80 figures are known most of them depicting deer (elk, reindeer) at the main panel, the middle panel consists of several whale figures and the lowest of several boat carvings. Boat carvings became very common in the bronze age.
The carvings have not been painted, so they appear more or less like the original ones, and they are deep and neatly carved.
The site is easy to visit, a parking lot has been made at the main highway and a path leads down to the carvings, and signposts have been placed.

Boggestranda submitted by Martin_L : Left part of the main panel. The magnificent large older stone age elk (figur 7) measures 2m x 1,75m. There are also 12 smaller and more stylized late stone age animals (figuren 3-6, 8, 10-15) and a fragment of an animal (figur 9) visible in this picture. The carvings were painted to enhance visibility as this is one rock art site which is open to the public, but the paint is partly washed away. (Vote or comment on this photo)
