Standing Stone (Menhir) in Sogn og Fjordane
Just next to a modern house on the lawn and next to a small pine tree forest is a beautiful round cairn with a standing stone on top. When I visited the locals were really surprised of seeing someone coming from North Norway to photograph ancient sites and they were very glad and nice to see me!
The Lærdalen valley and the area and nature around is very sceneric and beautiful and from the small hill where the site is it is a beautiful view over the valley. The cairn is 19 metres in diameter around 1,7 metres in height. The top seems to be a little flattened and the cairn is overgrown with moss and garden grass so it appears more like a barrow than a cairn. Some stones that makes up the barrow are visible trough the vegetation.
In the middle of the cairn is a beautiful standing stone. The stone is 2,6 metres in height, around 50cm wide and 25cm thick. The stone narrows closer to the top that ends in a rounded point and the stone seems to have some flaking and the profile almost seems to have "shoulders". The cairns and stone doesnt seem to have any damage.
