This runestone is not very well known and about the same size as the one on Einangen, small, but in my opinion one of the most fascinating! The stone used is almost white, but overgrown with small vegetation, so it makes the stone almost have a black and white pattern
It is only about 1.40 metre in height, about 1 meter wide and about 20-30cm thick with sharp edges, making it appear like a polished slab. Almost like a modern tombstone, but it is about 1400 years old!
The stone was discovered in 1903 under the soil during farming work, and the runic inscription was found on the upper side of the stone. It was raised again on this spot. There were no graves found under the stone, only a similar stone without runes nearby. The text shows however, that the stone was a grave marker.
The runes are made in the older futhark like the Einangen runestone, and the stone has been dated back to the age of wondering, around 600AD. The runes are going from top to bottom close to the edge on the large flat side of the stone. They have been translated to mean something like "The archer was put in a mound here". Who was this archer, and where is his mound?? nobody knows, he is lost to history and his grave probably never found, but at least we have his very pretty gravestone!
