Embedded in a building in the Gamla Stan (Old Town) of Stockholm is a piece of an ornamented rune stone.
Transcribed and translated, the remaining runic inscription reads; 'Torsten and Frögunn had this stone raised after their son'. When compared with many other similar stones, the runes where carved around one thousand years ago.
How this fragment got to be used in this way is unknown, but it is clear that a builder got hold of it one way or the other and thought it would make a nice decoration.
The cannon was placed in front of the corner in the 17th century, to protect the wall from the wagon traffic in the narrow lanes.
Directions: Stockholm; Gamla Stan (Old Town), Prästgatan 17 / Kåkbrinken 1
