This ridge pa dominates the area. The archaeological sites around the location of the ancient Maori settlement at Omokoitri Bay are extensive. Most are shell middens but there are several pa sites too. Q09-34 Ridge Pa is located on a ridge and is 300 metres long by 55 metres wide narrowing down to15 metres making it a large site. A steep terrace can be seen on the south east side from the area within the park where you can view the site. There is a 20 metre by 15 metre tihi (platform) towards the north east of the pa and there are terraces , middens containing cockle, scallop and cominella shells too. You can walk to the vicinity of the site (about an hour following the red then blue trails in Te Rau Puriri Regional Park) but there is no access to the site itself although from the knoll where I took the photos you can get a good view of it.
