Stone Fort or Dun in Co. Galway

Dun Eochla is a stone fort located at the highest point on Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. Consisting of two series of walls, which with the stone hut in the enclosure, were repaired in the late 19th Century. It has been estimated that Dun Eochla was originally built sometime between 550 and 800 CE. and was the dwelling place for an extended family and their animals. It may have replaced an even older settlement.
