emerald visited on 20th Dec 2018 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Fabulous find. A bit of a search to find the farm, once there parking available for 50p and wander around the back of the farm to find the fenced off areas in a boggy fiel. Wellies a good idea. In the plantation also more concentric circles and through there a couple if fields away are standing stones, only 1 upright as 2 fallen

SandyG visited on 5th Sep 2017 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 4 This site would be best visited in low bright light. I visited on a dull evening after days of torrential rain. The field in which the outcrops stand was really boggy in places and the art was flattened by the lighting conditions.

h_fenton visited on 17th Sep 2010 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 5 Access: 4 Visited this site in the morning with strong low sunlight which was fantastic for showing up the cup and ring marks. I stayed for a while as the sun rose, highlighting further cup and ring marks. Unfenced out in the field a short distance to the west of the main group a few more ring marks were visible where the grass has worn away. With the permission of the farmer, I flew my kite here to take some aerial photographs of the rock art. There were a couple of cows in the field but they were only mildly interested in what I was doing.

Runemage visited on 1st Jan 2006 - their rating: Cond: 3 It's quite a walk from the parking area at the farm, not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. The largest easily-accessible outcrop with RA I've seen. There was a large herd of bullocks to walk through which some folks find intimidating.

Drumtroddan Cup and Ring Markings
Drumtroddan Cup and Ring Markings submitted by rockartuk : On a fenced outcrop, 200m South of the farm (NX 362 447), R.W.B. Morris counted 84 cup-and-rings (1979). This photo was taken in 1993 with the carvings still clear. However, in 2000 the marks turned very faint. Acid rain? The question of preservation (after about 5000 years!) is now actual as well as urgent. How? (Vote or comment on this photo)

I visited in 2012 and also found it very wet underfoot. The farmer gave me a lift up on his quad bike and told me that there are more rock marks beyond main fenced off area on rocks in the small wood. He said that the university used to clear them periodically but that this has not been done for some time. After looking at the main rock art I climbed over the wooden fence into wooded area but I found nothing.

A comment on the apparent disappearance - over 7 years - of the millennia-old markings! :)

The best time to go and see this feature is in the early hours of the morning, or in the evening, when the sun is very low.

This creates good contrast, and shadows, which brings out the 'grooves' wonderfully.

If the sun is too high, it creates a 'washed-out' effect, rendering the markings almost invisible.

The best I ever saw them was a cold, clear day (quite early) in January . . . . they looked awesome, and crystal clear.

There are three separate outrcrops, two in the main field and one to the rear of the field over a drystone wall (there are steps in the wall but these are hard to see until you get up close). Two standing stones can be seen in the distance.

The site is well signposted from the road with Historic Scotland signs and parking is available in the farmyard (a charge of 50p is made). Once in the farmyard, the signs seem to disappear - you need to go round the back of the farmhouse (following the track to the left of the main building) through the gate (take wellies if it is wet - there were large puddles everywhere when we went!) and up into the field.

The rock art is quite well preserved on the two outcrops in the field, but the one over the wall has weathered badly.
