The barrow cemetery at Gleinsneset lies inside a very pretty pine tree forest with parts of the forest been thinned to make the barrows more easily visible. The sunlight that shines trough the pine trees and find their way to the forest floor makes the whole site have a certain aura of mysticism, in some old tales these area is said to be haunted, and people were reporting glowing moving light balls and weird voices. The folk lore surrounding the site makes it very interesting!
The site itself consists of two large round barrows, they are about 20 metres across and looking a little flat on top, they dont elevate mouch up from the terrain, they are about 1 metre in height. One of them have a standing slab in the centre, it is hard to say if its a standing stone or a part of a burial chamber.
The site also have five more round barrows. They have very pretty shapes and look undisturbed. They are from around 12-15 metres across and from 1 to 2 metres in height. They have deep and clear ditches around the edges.
The are had originally 3 more round barrows. They have been excavated in earlier years, leaving round impressions in the ground.
The area also had a long barrow, it was also excavated, and left a very pretty ship-shaped depression in the ground. It is possible to see today exactly how the ship was laid out and how large it was.
Additionally there was found a flat-ground barrow with the stone coffin still visible. It is maid of 6 slabs forming a burial coffin. It is easy to see the "coffin" in the ground.
The site also have a round burial cairn located further out close by the sea, it is about 12 metres across and about 1 metre in height. It is located on top of a hill overlooking the sea.
The area has been made possible to visit with a footpath leading to the site and signposts showing the path to the site.
