This is one of the most beautiful standing stones I have seen and in one of the most beautiful settings!
The stone is located on a small mound (probably a barrow) called "Hellehaugen". It is around 5 metres in diameter and around 0.5 metres in height. The mound itself is of no notable size, but the stone on top is really making it notable!

In 1955 the barrow was excavated, but no grave was found. Some pot shards and pieces of cheramics and some animal bones, probably of a horse, were found. The stone is located only around 10 metres to the south of a local country road.

The stone is measured to be 4.25 metres in height. It is around 1.2 metres wide at the base. Closer to the top the stone gets narrower and the top ends in a rounded point. The stone is only around 10cm thick and is shaped like a tall, wide standing slab. The larger sides are very smooth and almost appear to have been polished!
Another special feature of the stone is the carving of a ship around 1.5 metres up from the ground on the large side, the side towards the sea. It is around 80 cm long and around 50cm in height. It resembles a Viking longship. If the standing stone is a grave monument, theories are that it is in memory of a person lost at sea or in foreign lands. It is the only standing stone in Norway that has a carving of a ship.

From the site there is a beautiful view over the Eidsfjord and the surrounding mountains, while the barrow itself is surrounded by only short grass and some smaller trees.
