UKVegan writes: I can find no records whatsoever of this site/feature. It is at the head of Far Easedale, near Grasmere in the Lake District and many rocks are scattered around the area. However, this is clearly (to my mind) far from a random feature, and appears amongst similar, although not quite as obvious features. What do you think?

On a walk today, up Far Easedale then back to Grasmere along the tops from Calf Crag to Helm Crag... took photos of the site... looks very circular, and rather obviously an interesting site. However, we have no evidence to offer of natural or manmade origin. Hope it proves to be manmade! Cheers 'UKVegan' for 'putting it out there'.

The site is linked to a megalithic site in the Isle of Man which is linked to new grange in Ireland by exact distance

This is interesting 'UKVegan'. From a satellite view it is a distinct circle of stones.

There are several similar upland ring / boulder cairns around the Grasmere area. That being said, there are natural features that mimic such arrangements. Moraines are perhaps the best explanation, especially in the context of a glacial valley.

I certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility of this being a natural moraine, altered by prehistoric hands to house a burial or two. Especially since there are so many examples of such features across South Lakeland.

Please query this with either the National Park / Trust authorities if you have not already. The valleys surrounding Grasmere are a hidden trove of prehistoric activity - so this should be treated both cautiously and seriously.
