Chambered Cairn in Derbyshire. This robbed cairn is 18 metres in diameter with an exposed 2-compartment chamber and passage entered from a forecourt at the southern end of the mound. The entrance was revetted by a straight-fronted dry wall 10 metres long. The chamber and passage are the same width, the former delineated by large septal slabs. Excavations in 1963-64 showed that the tomb had been deliberately blocked and the paved limestone forecourt filled in. Roman pottery and coins were suggesting that the the tomb had been rifled as long ago as early Roman times.

Green Low (Aldwark) submitted by SteveJamesSheldon : Tiny bit of a struggle to find this as it isn't marked on the OS map, was led to it by the tumuli that are and a bit of help from this site! I was under time pressure as my camera battery was dying and I could only hope the snow would last in the sun! Saw some suspicious stones in farmers walls around that I felt were probably robbed from here or other cairns.

What a great site, really got lucky with the weather, full sun and snow on the ground, set the mood nicely!

I visited this site in July 09. It was very peaceful and relaxing, apart from the nearby quarry operations at Grangemill. I found it particularly interesting that the blocked entrance for the site was directed towards the outcrop of Harborou' Rocks (another beautiful site in Derbyshire with industrial works littered on it). I will post my photos when i get chance.
Were these places symbolically linked and connected? It would also answer my initial question upon visiting the site, which was, why place the site here rather than on the slightly higher ground to the north?
