Ancient Trackway in Lower Saxony

Recently (2021) established info trail for the remains (original structures are not to be seen of course as they are below ground level) of a Pre-roman Iron age plank way dated to 46BC.
The original length has been over 4km making it one of the longest known plank ways in Northwest Germany. It has been built to allow crossing the moorland. Various excavations took place after its discovery in 1817. The latest have just ended in 2021. Several interesting finds have been made including remains of a cart wheel. To visit the area a modern plank way has been established and many great information panels have been set up along its course.
Naturally no parts of the original structure can be visited, but the info trail is well worth a visit (visit in 2021)

Coordinates refer to the starting point of the trail/parking in March 2022.

A great article in German with many photos from the excavations and an extensive list of references is to be found here
