Gweek Round
Gweek Round submitted by Bladup : Outside Gweek Round, The 'landowner' (Although he probably just manages the land for a big corporate company) here is an absolute prick (Vote or comment on this photo)
The remains Gweek Round are situated on a hilltop above Gweek Woods, comprising a sub-oval revetted field hedge approx 66m by 60m and 1.6m high, with vestiges of an outer ditch, a simple rampart, well preserved by a modern hedge up to 2.7m thick, with an infilled ditch visible on the south side.

The remains comprise a sub-oval revetted field hedge approx 66m by 60m and 1.6m high, with vestiges of an outer ditch on the north and west sides. The interior is raised, and the entrance appears to be on the uphill south side. In 1980 a watching brief was kept by the CCRA during the installation of water pipes and tanks, one inside the earthwork. The round was found to be in very good condition with the rampart standing several metres high, but ploughing has almost filled the ditch and caused the outer edge of the rampart to become very steep. The ditch now appears as a vague depression around most of the circumference.

The trench for the water pipe that cut diagonally across the ditch revealed very little. The ditch appeared to be steep sided and 2.5m wide at the top. The rampart, composed of shillet dug out of the ditch, is around 3.0m wide at the base, although the outside has been cut away by ploughing. No other features were noticed and there were no finds. The round is visible as a low earth bank on aerial photographs and was plotted as part of the NMP.
