The best time to see it would be when the foliage and summer growth are not so dense. From the car, there is not much to see, but the "overlooks" are drivable with short walks. The earthwork is so huge that pictures from the viewing platform really don't do it justice. | ||

I don't remember the enclosing walls having been visible at that time due to shrubs and foliage. The visitors is very good and has an excellent film which talks about the various other Hopewell and Adena sites in the area. | ||

One addition to that time are markers for astronomical alignments that are based on the coils of the snake. Still very peaceful and worth the view. | ||

Not a lot is left undisturbed, but the mound has been rebuilt after a long ago excavation. There was a second mound that was not rebuilt. There is a wall that partially encloses the area. | ||

Although it is built a minimum of 1000 years after some of the ancient sites in the UK, its walls and deep ditch are reminiscent of the classic ditch and bank.
