Log Text: main buildings destroyed by fire in October 2019. Will be reconstructed but this will take years. See e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuri_Castle#2019_fire. A tragic loss, it had taken decades to re-build it after the destruction during WWII. We were lucky to visit it just days before the fire – one of the most spectacular reconstructions I have ever seen.

Wayland's Smithy
Date Added: 3rd Dec 2019
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: England (Oxfordshire)
Visited: Yes on 1st Jan 1987
Wayland's Smithy submitted by TimPrevett on 19th May 2017. Collage showing a remarkable encounter with a mouse at Wayland's Smithy at its entrance. This mouse and I had each others' eye contact for about a minute before it dove between the horizontal facing stones. One of those happenings on visiting ancient sites which on one level is mere fortune and synchronicity but on another feels very meaningful and profound.
A little video of this on my instagram account here.

Maiden Castle (Dorset) submitted by pab on 16th Oct 2011. Moon at dawn over Maiden Castle.
Just before sunrise, with the almost full moon about to set.
One of those mornings when you feel it is worth getting up early to catch nature's magic working in a magnificent setting.
This photo is looking across the north east rim, with the early morning mist beginning to catch the light from the rising sun.
