This is a close up of the cross-head dating from circa AD700 and relates to the Anglian church and monastery which was on the site before the Cathedral. Going down the steps into the Treasury, it is displayed in a case on the left hand wall.

The north side is divided into five compartments. In the highest and lowest are vines running in graceful curves and bearing foliage and fruit.
