Proleek Dolmen submitted by Sunny100 on 1st Sep 2010. The Proleek dolmen or burial chamber near Ballymacscanlan dates from the Neolithic period - some 5,000 years ago. The huge capstone measures approx 3.8 x 3.2 metres and is said to weigh somewhere between 30-40 tonnes. It is supported on only two up-rights each about 2.3 metres high. Local legend says the capstone was put into place by the Scottish giant Parrah MacShagean, who reputedly is buried nearby, hence the name 'The Giant's Load'. This is the internal entrance to the souterrain on the W side of the rath. The entrance opens into a large chamber integral to the wall. A twisting 20' long creep passage leads off from the chamber to the centre of the rath.

Porz Guen dolmens submitted by thecaptain on 14th Jun 2006. Remains of two dolmens on the clifftop to the north of the Porz Guen beach on the Cote Sauvage of the Quiberon Peninsula.
The more inland is the most complete, with one capstone surviving on the entry couloir. The chamber would probably have been roofed with large corbelled capstones around it, many of which survive fallen neaby.

Log Text: Only one horseshoe shaped mound remains in Portsmouth. Easy to visit and despite its modest size and location in a city park it still had a good ambience.

Log Text: The location was just stunning and the ambiance was strong perhaps because of the sweeping views of the bay.
