Fremont Indian State Park

Site Type: Museum
Country: United States (The West)
Visited: Would like to visit

Fremont Indian State Park submitted by Alta-Falisa on 30th Jul 2015. FREMONT PETROGLPHS Petroglyphs (etching in rocks) created, it is believed, by the Fremont people which lived in the area approximately from AD 600 - 1300. The Fremont people were contemporaries of the Ancestral Puebloans (Anasazi) of the Four Corners area. This is one panel of some of the many petroglyphs in the Captitol Reef Utah area. Though this panel is very high up on the rock face it is easily visible. Wish I could show it to you in the full 6000 pixels as it is so interesting.

From left to right, notice the two quadrupeds, the tall person, the supplicating person and the snakelike figure. The style of these images matches other Fremont culture rock-art paintings in the region.

St-Pierre-Quiberon Alignement submitted by thecaptain on 12th Jun 2006. Out on the Quiberon Peninsula, near to the Kerbourgnec cromlech can be found a pleasant little park with the remains of these alignements in it.
The stones are of all shapes and sizes, up to 4 metres tall. There's a lovely curved "sharks fin" in front of me as I sat and wrote this, and a diamond to my right. These stones are wonderful, and its lovely to be able to just sit amongst them.

Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: France (Bretagne:Finistère (29))
Visited: Would like to visit

Menoignon menhir submitted by theCaptain on 5th May 2014. The menhir must be about 8 metres in height, of large girth at the bottom, slowly tapering up to a pointed top.
The southeastern face of the menhir has been worked into an extremely flat surface, of triangular shape, something which clearly took a lot of time to produce.

Country: France (Bretagne:Côtes-D'Armor (22))

Coat Castel menhir submitted by JohnGinny on 2nd Sep 2007. Another hillside track menhir on the outskirts of the village. Overlooking the river that feeds the local fontaine. Again high earth banks delineating the pathway to the stone.
A very impressive 7 meters high, it hid amongst the trees until we nearly bumped into it!
Woodland menhirs have a tendency to turn the same colour as trees which makes hunting them rather difficult - even when accompanied by a detailed map.
A imposing stone, apparently it is well known locally and located in a w...

Fontaine St Michel submitted by TheCaptain on 12th Jun 2011. Round the back of the massive tumulus there is a nice well with a little well house and offerings area above a clear pool of water slowly bubbling up from the ground.
I have no doubt that this spring has been here for thousands of years and indeed quenched the thirst of the men building the tumulus.
