While on an opportunistic drive up unmarked lanes above Llanbedr-y-cennin this week, I noticed and photographed the fine profile which (from the Portal!) I subsequently found out was Pen-y-Gaer. This shot was taken from the slopes 0.6km due west.

The group of five Mamoas, or round barrows, are located along a lane running south from the Cha de Lamas 'Agricultural colony'. This annotated screenshot of Google Earth shows the position of the five Mamoas. There is also a dolmen further down the lane, and apparently another Mamoa 200 metres north of the houses shown.

Nordland Museum, Bodø submitted by PAB on 4th Mar 2012. Collection of Silver items from the Viking Age on display in Nordland Museum, Bodø. This is described in the museum's brochure as being one of the biggest treasures from the Viking Age found in Northern Norway. It was found by chance in 1919, hidden in a scree and wrapped in birch bark. The coins / money are a mixture of both Anglo-Saxon (5) and Arabic (47) origin. February 2012.

Stopped at this today, 12 April 2007, and it seems to have settled slightly since Shropshire Traveller's picture in 2005. It is difficult to be absolutely sure, but the angle of the holes on this face certainly seem slightly more acute, and the surrounding ground is definitely showing the signs of livestock using it for shelter. RCAHMW reports it as having been found in a hedge in about 1910, so perhaps it was moved to its current location ...
