Stanton Drew - Avenue

Stanton Drew - Avenue submitted by TimPrevett on 18th Aug 2006. For evidence of the avenue, go past the NE circle, and look for the linear earthwork. The line is visible here on the LH corner of the picture; the group is on another part of the earthwork. Looking on the aerial pics, and on the ground, this can be traced from 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock outside the Great and NE circles. I did have an excellent picture of this from the ground, but have accidentally overwritten it!

Kinnerton

Date Added: 18th Apr 2011
Site Type: Standing Stones Country: Wales (Powys)
Visited: Couldn't find on 18th Jul 2009

Kinnerton

Kinnerton submitted by TheWhiteRider on 4th Jul 2005. We could only find one of the Kinerton Standing Stones. This one, just visible in the long grass is right next to a footpath. The other, according to the map, is just a little way down the road, but appears to be on private land and is hidden by a high hedge and other foliage. A visit during the Winter months may offer a glimpse of it.

Inkpen Long Barrow

Inkpen Long Barrow submitted by JimChampion on 24th Jul 2005. A view of the east end of the barrow against the backdrop of rainclouds on a showery summer afternoon. The macarbe double-gibbet makes the site easy to find from the valley below. The erosion due to people walking the length of the barrow is visible in this picture: the info board says that various measures have been taken to try and limit wear and tear by the visitors to this great viewpoint.

Merry Maidens (Circle) submitted by JimChampion on 27th Oct 2006. August 2005. The Merry Maidens under fluffy white clouds. I rediscovered this photo and selectively manipulated the contrast so that you can now see the stones (previously they were too dark). I've uploaded a similar photo to Wikimedia Commons - they need pictures of ancient sites for use on free sites like Wikipedia.

To find it follow Harvest Ride until you find the Quelm Park Roundabout, the Car Park is about 50 Meters to the East. The Stone is only 50 metres from the carpark and a few metres from a good path, even some one wit a wheelchair could get near enough to see it. This should be a popular destination, but I can find nothing written about it, I have contacted the rangers to see if they know any more. The write up on the ...
